Our Story So Far...

The Lymestone Brewery is a family run micro-brewery established in Stone Staffordshire. We have made our home in the former Bents Brewery, which was closed in the late 1960’s following a take-over by Bass. Lymestone was established in 2008 by Ian Bradford who is best known to everyone as ‘Brad The Brewer’, shortly after this he was joined by his wife Viv and daughter Sarah, between them they laid the foundations for what the brewery is today.

Brad began working in the brewing industry way back in 1991, when micro brewing was still very much in its infancy. Over the following years he has seen monumental changes, not least during the recent pandemic. Since the Lymestone brewery started it has grown and adapted to satisfy market demands. A core range of cask beers has been supplemented with a changing range of monthly seasonal beers, all of which now make it into bottle to meet the growing home drinking market.

2012 saw the successful opening of our first pub ‘The Lymestone Vaults’, quickly followed by a second, ‘The Borehole’ in 2015.

In 2022, we made the difficult decision to close the ‘Lymestone Vaults’. Soon after this, the brewery was dealt a huge blow with Viv passing away. Viv was the driving force behind most of what we did. She was a firm believer in the philosophy of  ‘if you put your mind to it, you can achieve anything’ and with this in mind, we continue to work together to grow the brewery.

At Lymestone we have always looked to make use of the many local craft producers. Our pork pies, pork scratchings, crisps and gift box cheeses, are all from Staffordshire based companies. We bottle all our beers, design and print all our labels, and purchase brewing sundries from businesses in Staffordshire, most of which are family run too.

We are delighted to serve and deliver to our local communities here in Staffordshire. The pandemic has changed the way we trade. Our cask beer generally stays within a 50-mile radius (with noticeable exceptions) whilst our bottled beers are available nationally online to mainland UK.

We have built a business that has been recognised at every level to the highest standard. Our brewery, its beers, and its pubs have received accolades from various relevant industry bodies.

Our monthly tours are extremely popular. They are a great way to enjoy Lymestone beers and learn all about how they are made!!

The brewery has a unique space available to hire for ALL occasions and activities.
