The Lymestone Brewery is a family run micro-brewery based in Stone Staffordshire. It was founded in 2008 by Ian Bradford who is best known to everyone as Brad The Brewer and his amazing wife Viv who takes care of the business behind the scenes and keeps everything running like clockwork. It is located in the old Bents Brewery right at the heart of the market town.
Brad has a wealth of experience having been in the brewing industry for 30 years and is now training the next generation as working alongside him is his daughter Sarah. Between them they have created a portfolio of traditional beers under the Lymestone name and Sarah has her own portfolio of recipes with a lager, pilsner and selection of ciders under her pen name of Stray Cat Brewing.
Brad began in the industry in 1991 when micro brewing was in its infancy and has seen monumental changes in the 13 years he has been running Lymestone not least in the last 18 months during the global pandemic. Lymestone Brewery continues to grow, develop and adapt in line with changes in technology, the industry and customer needs and behaviors using techniques both traditional and advanced to create award winning cask, keg and bottled beers.
Brad says ‘We are delighted to serve and deliver to the whole of the UK as well as our local communities here in Staffordshire’ ‘We are so proud of our award-winning ales that have been lovingly crafted to ensure superior quality and optimum drinking pleasure. Some of our awards include not one but two regional gold medals from the 2019 Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA) Awards and our pubs The Borehole in Stone and the Lymestone Vaults in Newcastle Under Lyme won gold and bronze at the Enjoy Staffordshire Tourism & Good Food Awards in 2019. More recently we have been awarded SIBA’s gold award in 2020 for our Abdominal Stoneman craft ale and for Sarah’s Stray Cat Pilsner and their Silver award in the same year for our Tropical IPA. We love our brewery, and we want everyone else to love and enjoy it too which is why we hold monthly brewery tours.’
The tours are extremely popular and are a great way to enjoy Lymestone cask ales, learn about the history of the building and the business and discover the brewing methods involved. Tickets include an open bar where you can try all the beers on offer and go back for more if you wish, a talk from our very own Brad The Brewer and a stew for your supper!
